STRATFORD Town returned to winning ways with an impressive 3-1 victory away at St Ives Town.

The Bards took the lead through Callum Ebanks’ goal before late strikes from Dan Lafferty and Alex Worley sealed the points at Westwood Road.

And the result means Stratford sit sixth in the Southern League Premier Central table, outside of the play-off places on goal difference with a game in-hand on Leamington in fifth.

The visitors broke the deadlock on 19 minutes when Ebanks finished into an empty net after Callum Smith’s goal kick deceived the St Ives defence including the home goalkeeper.

However, St Ives won a penalty after the break with the referee pointing to the spot after the ball popped up and struck Lafferty on the arm.

And Jonny Edwards duly converted the resulting penalty as he sent Smith the wrong way from the spot.

The Bards reclaimed the lead on 75 minutes when Lafferty fired home from 10-yards out after Ebanks forced a mistake in the St Ives defence following another goal kick from Smith.

And the visitors wrapped up the win four minutes from time as Worley poked home at the back post after Lewis Patching could only parry Ebanks’ powerful shot into the scorer’s path.

Stratford are next in action away at Needham Market on Tuesday, February 27 with kick-off at 7.45pm at Bloomfields.
