PAUL Davis has responded to claims Stratford Town are refusing to pay a former player owed wages following a viral social media post.

Former Stratford player AJ George published a post on X which has since received 4.3million views on the social media platform.

George posted a screenshot of WhatsApp messages with a Stratford Town official, in response to a club post, which suggested Davis had stopped him from receiving his wages.

The post has since received millions of views with the club criticised on other posts for not paying George his wages.

However, while Davis confirmed the club are withholding George’s wages, he insists Stratford are merely following well-established club rules.

The Bards boss also confirmed George would receive any owed wages once he returned all club property.

Davis said: “What I can tell you is what I know, which is the truth.

“The football club has a watertight handbook which the players sign before the season starts.

“One of the rules states: ‘if you leave or you get let go, you need to return all club property before you receive your last wage or get transferred somewhere else’.

“We haven’t received kit back from a player, so at the minute the football club is withholding that wage.

“We’ve stuck to the club rules. The player hasn’t returned his kit. They are false allegations.

“This football club is the most important thing in this and the football club has done the right thing in my opinion.”
