FOOTBALL - Stratford Town leave it late to stun Halesowen

SUBSTITUTE Lewis Wilson scored an injury time winner as Stratford Town twice came from behind to beat Halesowen Town 3-2 in a five-goal thriller.

Wilson struck five minutes into time added on after Reece Styche equalised on 84 minutes following Callum Ebanks’ initial leveller in first-half injury time at The Grove.

That came after Conor Tee and Kieren Donnelly twice put the Yeltz into the lead only for Stratford to stage a dramatic turnaround.

The result means the Bards sit sixth in the Southern League Premier Central table, three points behind leaders Stamford.

Halesowen broke the deadlock on 37 minutes when Tee finished on the rebound from close range after Jake Weaver kept out Todd Parker’s initial shot.

However, the Bards drew level in stoppage time at the end of the first half as Ebanks finished off Dan Lafferty’s header from close range as the teams went into the break all square.

The Yeltz reclaimed the lead on 62 minutes as Donnelly followed up McKauley Manning’s overhead kick to put the home side back in front.

Stratford found a second equaliser six minutes from time when Styche swept home after good work from Chris Hussey and Ebanks.

And the Bards stole the points deep into injury time as Wilson made no mistake from six-yards out after Hussey’s initial free-kick came back off the crossbar.

Stratford are next in action away at Barwell in the FA Trophy on Saturday, October 5 with kick-off at 3pm at Kirkby Road.
