STRATFORD Town moved up to second in the table with a hard-fought 2-0 victory away at 10-man Biggleswade Town.

Second-half goals from Chris Hussey and Dan Lafferty sealed the points for the Bards at Langford Road while the home side had Ryan Doherty sent off in injury time.

And the result means Stratford sit second in the Southern League Premier Central table, two points behind leaders Bedford Town.

The visitors went close to taking an early lead when Lewis Ludford-Ison’s chip almost deceived Biggleswade goalkeeper Jack Berman.

At the other end, Jake Weaver kept out Cyrus Babaie-Gumbs’ effort after the latter cut in from the wing.

After a goalless first period, Stratford broke the deadlock on 49 minutes when Hussey scored from the penalty spot after Charlie Williams drew a foul in the box.

The Bards secured the points on 89 minutes as Lafferty smashed home substitute Jack Storer’s driven ball into the box.

And Biggleswade finished the game with 10-men after Doherty picked up a second yellow card in stoppage time.

Stratford are next in action against Lowestoft Town on Saturday, October 19 with kick-off at 3pm at the Arden Garages Stadium.
