STRATFORD Town extended their winning run in the league to five matches with a 2-1 home victory against struggling Alvechurch.
Quickfire goals from Owen James and Josh Hawker put Stratford in command at the break only for Jez Abbey to halve the deficit for the visitors after the interval at the Arden Garages Stadium.
The result means Stratford sit eighth in the Southern League Premier Central table, four points outside of the play-off places.
Stratford broke the deadlock on 35 minutes when James reacted quickest to turn home a loose ball after Dan Vann saw his fierce effort turned onto the post by Redman Evans.
And the Bards doubled their lead four minutes later as Hawker’s acrobatic effort following some head tennis in the box put the Bards in control.
Church responded after the break on 57 minutes when Abbey beat the offside trap and finished well past Jake Weaver.
Alvechurch are next in action against Kettering Town on Saturday, January 3 with kick-off at 3pm at Latimer Park.
