STRATFORD Town secured their first league win of the season against Alvechurch after seeing their other bank holiday fixture abandoned.
The Bards claimed a 2-1 victory against Church at Lye Meadow to pick up their first points of the season as Henry Landers and Dan Lafferty found the net.
Stratford’s win against Alvechurch lifts the Bards off the bottom of the table and out of the Southern League Premier Central relegation zone on goal difference.
That came after Stratford saw their home match against Bishop’s Stortford abandoned due to an injury to a visiting player at the Arden Garages Stadium.
Bishop’s Stortford’s Harry Titchmarsh suffered a serious injury in the final few minutes which led to the abandonment of the fixture.
After he received treatment from paramedics on the pitch, he went to hospital. He suffered a dislocated knee with the issue now corrected and the player recovering from injury.
An outcome for the fixture is yet to be determined with Bishop’s Stortford leading 2-1 in injury time.
The Bards took the lead against Alvechurch on 19 minutes as Landers powered home after Redman Evans kept out Fin Brennan’s initial effort.
And the visitors doubled their lead on 58 minutes when Lafferty found the net from the edge of the penalty area.
Stratford then had Josh Roney sent off five minutes later after he picked up a second yellow card following a rash challenge.
Church eventually made the man advantage count two minutes from time as Bavanganga forced the ball home following a melee in the box.
However, Stratford held on to end a run of three straight league defeats.
That came after the club’s weekend fixture against Bishop’s Stortford ended in an abandonment.
The visitors took the lead on 51 minutes as Cole Dasilva’s corner from the right looped over Jake Weaver and into the net.
And the away side doubled their lead two minutes later when Saleem Akanbi coolly finished past Weaver when one-on-one from 15-yards out.
The Bards halved the deficit one minute from time as Lewis Ludford-Ison glanced a header into the net.
However, the game would not reach a conclusion after a serious injury to Titchmarsh led to the referee abandoning the fixture.
Stratford are next in action against Halesowen Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, August 30 with kick-off at 3pm at The Grove.
