STRATFORD Town secured back-to-back wins in the league for the first time this year following a 2-1 victory at struggling Lowestoft Town.

Goals from Paul McCone and Charlie Williams helped the Bards to victory at Crown Meadow while Samuel Johnson netted a late consolation for the home side in injury time.

And the result means Stratford sit third in the Southern League Premier Central table, one point behind leaders AFC Telford United.

The home side made a fast start with Bards goalkeeper Jake Weaver forced into a save in the opening exchanges.

And Lowestoft spurned another chance later in the first half as the home side failed to convert Charlie Norman’s dangerous cross from the right.

However, the Bards broke the deadlock four minutes before half time when McCone rose highest to head Alex Williams’ corner from the left into the net.

Chances remained at a premium after the break as Owen James fired a shot well over the crossbar.

Stratford spurned a glorious chance to double their lead when James saw his effort parried by Lowestoft goalkeeper Ellis Craven when one-on-one.

At the other end, Lowestoft somehow sent a header wide from a promising position while Dan Lafferty and Lewis Ludford-Ison both Craven into saves.

The Bards eventually doubled their lead on 68 minutes when substitute Williams fired a shot into the bottom corner.

A late mix-up between McCone and Weaver allowed Johnson to halve the deficit five minutes into injury time as the visitors held on to take the points.

Stratford are next in action against Royston Town on Saturday, February 8 with kick-off at 3pm at the Arden Garages Stadium.
