SPORTING Club Inkberrow moved up to fifth in the Hellenic League Division One table after back-to-back wins against Calne Town and Southam United respectively.
The Berrow only had 13 players available for the long trip to Calne last weekend with Tom Nicholls in the Inkberrow goal the busier of the two goalkeepers early on.
However, the visitors took the lead on 27 minutes when Harry Grant’s driving run set up Declan Green to score from 10-yards out with a calm finish.
And Inkberrow doubled their lead just three minutes later when Grant rifled home from 18-yards out after good work from Green.
The Berrow all but sealed the win early in the second half when substitute Alex Quaynor finished well at the near post from Green’s pass.
Calne scored a consolation goal courtesy of Gabe Costello in the closing stages as Inkberrow held on to claim an impressive 3-1 victory on the road.
And that was followed by an emphatic 4-0 win away at Southam in midweek after a late inspection deemed the pitch playable following a heavy downpour early in the day.
After both teams hit the woodwork, the Berrow broke the deadlock when Declan Green stole in at the back post to finish Gowan Stares’ initial header.
And Inkberrow extended their lead after the interval as Luke Alcock netted from 10-yards out after the home goalkeeper could only push Quaynor’s powerful shot into the scorer’s path.
Debutant Ollie Smith completed the scoring with a fine brace from the bench with the Berrow now unbeaten in their last six matches in all competitions.
Inkberrow are next in action at home Moreton Rangers on Tuesday, September 26 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Inkberrow Recreation Ground.
