DAN Elwell scored a first-half brace to help Earlswood Town inflict a first defeat of the season on Central Ajax with a convincing 3-0 victory.
Elwell’s brace came either side of setting up Connor Doyle for the home side’s second goal as the Earls cruised to a comfortable win at The Pavilions.
That came after Elwell also found the net in a 3-2 home win against DSC United in the Les James Challenge Cup with Matthew Pemberton and Doyle also on target.
The victory against Ajax means Earlswood sit second in the Midland Football League Division Two table after five matches.
Elwell opened the scoring on five minutes against Ajax after pouncing on a short backpass to fire the Earls in front.
And he then turned provider on 18 minutes as Doyle finished off a flowing team move before grabbing his second of the game on 35 minutes with a cool finish.
The Earls also advanced to the next round of the Les James Challenge Cup despite falling behind to Falikou Kone-Kone’s powerful strike against DSC.
However, the home side equalised in style as Pemberton’s long range effort flew into the top left corner of the goal.
DSC restored their lead through Umar Zaman’s penalty before Elwell scored an audacious free-kick from 30-yards out to level up the game.
And the Earls completed the comeback soon after as Doyle finished from close range from Elwell’s ball into the box.
Earlswood are next in action away at league leaders AFC Coventry Rangers on Saturday, September 2 with kick-off at 3pm at Coventry Tech Sporting Club.
