STRATFORD Town extended their unbeaten run to six matches in all competitions with a 2-0 win against AFC Rushden and Diamonds.
The Bards went ahead through Dan Vann on two minutes before Dexter Walters sealed the win in the second half at the Arden Garages Stadium.
And the result means Stratford now sit sixth in the Southern League Premier Central having lost just one of their first seven league matches.
The Bards made a superb start when Vann’s bullet header opened the scoring from Will Grocott’s driven cross in the first couple of minutes.
And Stratford should have added to their lead in the first period as numerous chances went begging against the division’s bottom club.
The home side were a constant threat to the Rushden defence as visiting goalkeeper Dean Snedker made a host of saves including from Walters when one-on-one.
Bards keeper Louis Beresford, who replaced Liam O’Brien in the warm up, impressed between the sticks and deservedly kept a clean sheet.
And Stratford eventually sealed the points on 72 minutes when Walters smashed home Grocott’s cross from the right.
Stratford are next in action at home to Banbury United on Tuesday, September 20 in FA Cup Second Round Qualifying with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Arden Garages Stadium.
