FOOTBALL - Bards ship five in heavy Rushall defeat

STRATFORD Town suffered a humiliating 5-0 defeat at home to Rushall Olympic as Gavin Hurren’s depleted side were put to the sword.

The Bards were two goals down at the break and conceded a further three after half time to suffer their second five-goal defeat of the campaign at the Arden Garages Stadium.

And the result means Stratford sit 11th in the Southern League Premier Central.

A tough afternoon for Stratford started when Sam Whittall put the Pics into the lead on 11 minutes from Alexander Fletcher’s long throw.

And Rushall doubled their lead on 28 minutes when Reece Mitchell’s in-swinging corner from the right went all the way in.

The Bards finished the half well without troubling the scoreboard before Rushall wrapped up the points on the hour mark when Sam Mantom fired home under the body of goalkeeper Leon Phillips who was promptly withdrawn due to injury.

And Rushall grabbed their fourth of the afternoon on 70 minutes as Andre Carvalho-Landell ran in behind the Stratford defence and rounded substitute keeper Callum Monaghan before finishing into an empty net.

The visitors completed the scoring on 81 minutes when Jack Turner turned the ball into his own net to round off a dismal afternoon for the hosts.

Stratford are next in action at home to Royston Town on Saturday, October 8 in the FA Trophy with kick-off at 3pm at the Arden Garages Stadium.
