STRATFORD Town battled to a 1-1 draw against Stourbridge as the Bards were pegged back to share the points for a third successive home game.

Bards captain Will Grocott opened the scoring shortly after half time only for Jason Cowley to level for the visitors at the Arden Garages Stadium.

The result means Stratford remain 20th in the Southern League Premier Central table, five points from safety with a game in hand on Kings Langley who sit immediately above the relegation zone.

Grocott’s deflected shot looped in on 49 minutes to put Stratford ahead after good work from Josh Hawker and Kyle Bennett.

And Stratford almost doubled their lead soon after as Grocott and Bennett both had efforts blocked on the line by Stour captain Lee Vaughan.

However, Cowley equalised for Stourbridge on 68 minutes when he was left unmarked in the penalty area to head home past Liam O’Brien who was left rooted to the spot.

Stratford are next in action away at Bromsgrove Sporting on Tuesday, February 28 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Victoria Ground.
