FOOTBALL - Bards ease past Bedford in three-goal win

STRATFORD Town continued their recent resurgence with an impressive 3-0 win away at relegation rivals Bedford Town to move three points from safety.

The Bards took a first-half lead through Jamie Molyneux’s goal before Joe Butterworth put through his own net and Andre Wright sealed the points at The Eyrie.

And the result means Stratford are now just three points from safety in 20th position in the Southern League Premier Central table.

The visitors took the lead on 37 minutes when Molyneux’s crisp strike found the bottom corner from 20-yards out after good play from Dan Lafferty and Wright.

And Stratford doubled their lead in fortuitous circumstances on 49 minutes as Butterworth’s innocuous backpass was somehow missed by Bedford goalkeeper Lewis Elsom as the ball trickled into the net.

The Bards sealed the win on 75 minutes when Wright fired home his third goal in as many games from Will Grocott’s sensational backheel.

Stratford are next in action at home to Stourbridge on Saturday, February 25 with kick-off at 3pm at the Arden Garages Stadium.
