FOOTBALL - Bards continue resurgence with victory at Needham

JOSH Hawker’s early goal helped Stratford Town to a 1-0 win away at relegation rivals Needham Market as the Bards secured a third successive victory on the road.

Hawker netted the winner on 14 minutes at Needham’s Bloomfields ground as Gavin Hurren’s side stretched their unbeaten run to four matches, their longest streak since the opening weeks of the season.

The result means Stratford sit 18th in the Southern League Premier Central table, outside of the relegation zone on goal difference.

Stratford’s winner came after Hawker’s deflected shot from the edge of the penalty area left Needham goalkeeper Marcus Garnham with no chance as the home side failed to clear Lewis Ludford-Ison’s long throw.

The Bards are next in action away at Leiston on Saturday, March 11 with kick-off at 3pm at Victory Road.
