FC Stratford target swift revenge

FC STRATFORD will have the chance to avenge a cup defeat from just two weeks ago when they welcome Copsewood to the MoodChimp Stadium on Saturday.

The Coventry Alliance side edged out Dave Poulson’s men on penalties after a 1-1 draw when the sides met in Coventry in the Coventry Telegraph Cup.

However, they renew their rivalry this weekend in the Coventry Charity Cup second round, with Stratford having home advantage this time.

Stratford head into the contest after returning to winning ways on Saturday with a 3-0 win at Stourbridge side Enville Athletic.

Goals from Dean Poulson, Tom Parnaby and Sam Davis sealed a sixth win in six games in Midland League Division Three to remain second in the table, three points behind GNP Sports, who have won seven out of seven league fixtures.

Patience was key early on for Stratford at Hall Drive as Enville defended doggedly and withstood the visitors’ pressure until just before half time.

Davis did well down the right and Poulson took the ball into his path as he raced into the penalty area and slotted home for 1-0.

A second goal followed early in the second period when Parnaby netted with a clever header from a left-wing cross by Ashley Wilkes.

Soon it was 3-0 as Davis pounced on the loose ball when the keeper parried an effort from Poulson.

Both midfielder Poulson and striker Dan Coates featured for Stratford Town in midweek, making their debuts in the League Cup defeat at Redditch United.
