TEENAGER Isabel Bates has earned selection for England’s junior polocrosse team at the Four Nations Championships next month.
The Stratford Girls’ Grammar School year nine pupil, who lives in Studley, will play in the tournament at Cheshire Polo Club aboard her horse ‘Naughty’.
And Bates will put her skills to the test on July 22 and 23 against teams from Scotland, Wales and Ireland.
Polocrosse is a combination of polo and lacrosse and takes place on grass, on horseback, during the summer season and in the arena over the winter.
Each rider uses a racquet with a loose, thread net to carry the sponge rubber ball which is approximately four inches across in size.
The objective is to score goals by throwing the ball between your opponent’s goalposts.
A team consists of six players, divided into two sections of three who play alternate chukkas of a maximum of eight minutes each.
