Coventry now a different proposition in the Championship, says Biamou

SKY Blues centurion Max Biamou says Coventry City are a better team having adapted to the rigours of the Championship.

Speaking in the aftermath of Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Birmingham City – in which Gustavo Hamer’s 29th-minute drive cancelled out Jeremie Bela’ penalty for the hosts at St Andrew’s – the 30-year-old believes Coventry are in good stead to achieve their goal of second-tier safety this term.

“From the beginning of the season, we are completely different now and I think we are ready to play every team,” said the Frenchman after making his 100th appearance for the club.

“We were learning and we now are ready and focused.

“It is a tough season for me because I didn’t play a lot in pre-season, so for me even if I don’t score a lot of goals, I am helping the team to win games and the goal is to stay in the Championship.

“We need some rest and it is the same for the other teams and we have to be focused about the next game [against Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night] and be ready.

“We need to take care of all the players and I think what we are doing, everybody is happy. You have to take points from this kind of game and we are confident now.”

In four years at the club, the 30-year-old forward has been through the ringer with City – having joined from Sutton United in 2017 – experiencing football at the fourth tier, up to the second, during his time with Mark Robins’ side.

“I am very happy to have made 100 appearances for the club and it is a great achievement; because I played from League Two to the Championship and I have met a lot of great people at Coventry and played with a lot of great footballers,” he added.

“I am happy with the point but it is hard because sometimes I am on the bench and I try to do my best and I know the goals will come.”
