Chance to win a great day at the races

Stratford Editorial 7th Jan, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016   0

FIVE lucky readers will spend a day at ‘The Sport of Kings’ as The Observer has teamed up with Warwick Racecourse in the build-up to their annual Betfred Classic Chase raceday on Saturday, January 16.

Thousands of punters are expected to descend on one of the county town’s main attractions as seven action-packed races await our lucky competition winners.

Nestled within the backdrop of Warwickshire’s finest countryside, Warwick Racecourse is one of the country’s most traditional racecourses and has been running since 1728.

Starting at 12.40pm, the day is host to some crucial races in the build-up to the pinnacle of the national hunt season – The Festival at Cheltenham and Aintree Grand National.

Horses including Vibrato Valtat – winner of the prestigious Haldon Gold Cup at Exeter – Arbre De Vie and Glens Melody, who famously triumphed in the Mares’ Hurdle at Cheltenham following the fall of Annie Power, having graduated from Warwick.

This year, champion trainer Paul Nicholls will be aiming to defend his Classic Chase title after Hawkes Point triumphed in last year’s event.

There will also be competition to claim the Leamington Novices’ Hurdle prize – won last year by Three Musketeers – and trained locally by Warwick Racecourse ambassador Dan Skelton.

The course has undergone a transformation regarding their behind the scenes team in recent months, with Warwickshire-born Andre Klein taking the reins as general manager since November.

Andre told The Observer: “Betfred Classic Chase day is unquestionably the highlight of Warwick’s racing season.

“Over the years, the meeting has provided important pointers for punters looking to get an edge at the all-important Aintree Grand National and The Festival at Cheltenham.

“Our team at Warwick Racecourse is really looking forward to welcoming a massive crowd through the turnstiles and, by entering this competition, you give yourself a great opportunity to experience the occasion for free.”
