BOWLS - Warwickshire Women take honours with victory against Herefordshire

WARWICKSHIRE Women took the honours with victory against Herefordshire in a close game at Weobley Bowling Club.

Highest winning rink went to skip Vanessa Brazier (Rugby Rail) with Di Wilkinson (Stoke), Vivienne Belt (Stratford) and Caroline Harris (Nuneaton) who led 7-1 after five ends and, despite their opponents mounting a comeback, four, five and six shots on ends eight, 10 and 13 saw Warwickshire claim a convincing 28-9 victory.

Chris Cooke (Southam) with Margaret Colvin (Stratford), Celia Bellamy and Diane Harvey (Warwick Boat Club) were 12-0 ahead at seven ends and went on to secure a 22-6 victory.

Debbie Bloxham (Stratford) with Margaret Grosvenor (Lillington), Di Medhurst (Nuneaton) and Wendy Holloway (Welford) trailed by six shots after nine ends before picking up five shots at the 14th on their way to a 19-12 win.

Pat Moore (Three Spires) with Margaret Stephens (Lillington), Jean Veart (Nuneaton) and Elspeth Summers (Stratford) started strongly with five shots on the second end before Herefordshire levelled the game at 14-all after 13 ends and went on to win 22-16.

Gill Maund with Lily-Mae Adams and Joy Cooke (All Sherwood Park) and president, Donna Kerr (Lillington) stormed into an 18-6 lead at 10 ends only for Herefordshire to produce a remarkable comeback although the visitors held on to win 19-15.




Lastly, Jenny Corn (Lillington) with Brenda Batt (Snitterfield), Liz Crispin (Wolvey) and Elaine Taylor (Stoke) were down 17-4 at 12 ends and, despite winning five shots on the 13th end, eventually lost 24-14.
