ALEX Wood claimed an impressive silver medal in the 300m sprint representing Stratford-upon-Avon Athletic Club at the England Athletics Indoor Championships.
Wood set a new personal best (PB) time of 37.72 seconds to win silver in the under-15 category at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield.
The Stratford athlete reinvented himself over the longer 300m sprint in the winter and went into the competition as the second fastest runner on paper.
Wood won his heat, leading from gun to tape, in a PB time of 37.89 secs to qualify for the final where he set another PB to come home with silver.
Stratford’s under-20 hurdler Freddie Clemons, who studies at university in Sheffield, showed steady improvement in the winter.
And Clemons produced a season’s best run to finish sixth in his heat in a time of 8.54 secs as he just missed out on setting a new PB in a stacked field.
Lastly, Stratford’s under-17 athlete Ruby Edwards competed in the triple jump but bowed out of the competition with three no jumps.
Stratford head coach, Paul Bearman, said: “With a very strong array of UK talent competing, all three athletes came away from the National Championships with more experience and confidence.”
