STRATFORD-upon-Avon Athletic Club’s junior runners took part in round two of the West Midland Young Athlete Cross Country League at Newbold Revel.
The club fielded a team of 52 young athletes to race in a total of eight events – male and female under-11, under-13, under-15 and under-17 races.
In the team competition, the top-five finishers in each race count towards the overall points total (only the top-three in the under-17 races).
Stratford fielded full teams in all but one event while distances ranged from 1.6km for the under-11s to 4.8km for the under-17men.
Some of the races also featured an unexpected log jump due to a fallen tree along the course.
In the under-17 men’s race, Sam and Zak Lambert took third and fifth place respectively in times of 16 minutes 5 seconds and 16 mins 23 secs.
Elsewhere, William Hovell finished fifth in the under-15 boys race in 9 mins 52 secs while Marijke Tear-Verweij also placed fifth in the under-15 girls event in 10 mins 54 secs.
Just two seconds separated Tear-Verweij and the third-placed runner.
Stratford achieved second place in the team results for the under-17 men’s, under-15 boys and under-13 girls races to sit fifth in the overall team standings behind four other clubs.
The third meeting of the season takes place at Pingles Stadium in Nuneaton on Sunday, December 8.
