ATHLETICS - Stratford athletes compete at Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships

A NUMBER of Stratford-upon-Avon Athletic Club athletes competed in the Inter-Counties Cross Country Championships held at Wollaton Park in Nottingham.

British titles and selection for the World Cross Country Championships were on the line with several Stratford athletes representing Warwickshire.

And Georgie Campbell impressed on her debut in the senior women’s race held over 8km as she finished 57th overall and second in the Warwickshire team.

Former Stratford athlete Daisy Musk, running for her new county Dorset, placed fifth for her team as she tackled the distance for the first time.

Stratford’s Sam Lambert produced a strong finish to claim a superb 11th place finish in the under-15 boys race over 4km.

Tom Fisher also took part in the race in his breakthrough season and finished 114th overall, a minute behind Lambert, and third in the Warwickshire team.




The under-17 women were next to race over a slightly longer course as Maisie-Joy Spriggs and Niamh Hillard finished 109th and 155th respectively to place second and third for Warwickshire.

And Zak Lambert was the only Stratford runner in the under-17 men’s race over 6km as he finished 62nd overall and second for his county.


Competing for Worcestershire, Stratford’s Reece Yarnold placed third for his county in the under-13 boys race over 3km.

Onna Dowling completed her debut cross country season in the under-20 women’s race as she placed fourth for her county

Lastly, Marijke Tear-Verweij led Warwickshire home in the under-15 girls race over 4km as she finished 112th overall followed by Annie Silvers in 195th.
