ATHLETICS - Stratford AC's McKenzie wins triple jump bronze at England Athletic Indoor Championships

ZACH McKENZIE won triple jump bronze for Stratford AC at the England Athletic Age Group Indoor Championships in Sheffield.

Zach achieved a personal best jump of 13.06 metres, improving on his previous PB by 46 centimetres, and places him third overall in the current UK rankings for his age group.

Competing in his favoured event in the under-17 Boys competition, Zach finished 10 centimetres ahead of fourth place and missed out on silver by 16 centimetres.

Zach has also been offered a scholarship at Forest Green Rovers FC based in Stroud who are currently the runaway leaders in League Two and are odds on favourites for promotion.

He will be playing full-time from September and will be undertaking a Sports Excellence Diploma and plans to finish his A levels to ensure he has sound qualifications behind him after his football career is finished.

Club coach Paul Bearman said: “Having been involved with his coaching since his primary school days it has been wonderful to watch him emerge from a relatively quiet, shy, child into a brilliant mature sportsman with the world literally at his feet.”
