STRATFORD AC runner Alex Adams came away with a team gold medal on his England debut last weekend at the SIAB Schools International Cross Country Championships.

Adams completed the six kilometre course in a time of 22 minutes and four seconds to finish 15th overall in the top half of runners at Pembrey Park in Wales.

England claimed all 10 gold medals available at the international event with Ireland, Scotland and Wales also competing.

Adams said: “Taking team gold topped the day, bringing home an international medal! To be walking round as an international athlete is absolutely insane.

“It was a hot race and a horrible course of both hard ground and sandy hills. I felt I ran okay but I was disappointed with my end result.

“Nonetheless, I was there for the experience and what an experience it was. The England team was great and the boys all got on very well.

“This is just the beginning, bigger and better things to come.”

The countries top school athletes headed to the event with Adams having qualified with a fourth place finish at the previous week’s English Schools Cross Country Championships.

Everyone at Stratford AC is immensely proud of Adams’ who joined the club as an eight-year-old.
