ATHLETICS - Marshall achieves best international triathlon finish to date at European Junior Cup

CHARLY Marshall, from Stratford, achieved her best international triathlon finish to date representing Great Britain at the European Junior Cup in Tabor, Czechia.

Competing in the elite under-20’s (junior) female category, the teenager battled to an impressive 14th place finish in a strong field of 44 athletes.

This included Slovenia’s two-time world aquathlon champion Margareta Vrablova.

Marshall completed the sprint distance race, 750m lake swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run, in 32 degree heat with a gurelling 800m of ascent.

With many athletes unable to finish the race due to the challenging conditions, the 18-year-old could not hide her delight as she crossed the line in 14th place

And the teenager was second of four GB athletes who took part, behind friend and teammate Antonia Jubb who won silver.

Marshall improved upon her international debut in Caorle, Italy in May having worked tirelessly to recover from ankle and hip injuries sustained at the World Championship qualifiers last month.
