EMILY Madden Forman won silver at the prestigious UK Athletics Championships as the Stratford athlete consolidated her status as one of the top female high jumpers in the country.

Madden Forman clinched silver with a personal best (PB) jump of 1.81m to finish nine centimetres short of gold-medal winner Morgan Lake who is now a 13-time UK champion.

The Stratford athlete was wearing the Trafford AC vest while she studies in Manchester with the event taking place at Manchester Regional Arena.

The other Stratford athlete in action was Jack Sumners in the 110m hurdles, with star hurdler Andrew Pozzi ruled out through injury.

Sumners is based at university in Iowa in the United States of America and returned home for the summer after a hugely successful indoor and outdoor season across the pond.

The youngest competitor in the hurdles event, Sumners was third in his heat in a time of 14.15 seconds but was outside the qualifying time required to race in the final.

Sumners finished behind eventual champion Tade Ojora and also GB international Miguel Perrera in his heat.

Sumners said: “It’s a very strong competitive group at the moment and I’m happy with the time. I pushed a bit hard as I haven’t run in a while, but not bad and I’ll be back next year.”

The Championships attracted more than 800 of the UK’s best senior athletes with places up for grabs on the GB and NI squad for this year’s World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary.
