ATHLETICS - Adams stars for Stratford in latest cross country league meeting

ALEX Adams continued his fine form to win the under-17 men’s race for Stratford-upon-Avon Athletic Club at the latest West Midland Young Athletes Cross Country League fixture at Pingles Stadium in Nuneaton.

Adams, fresh from a superb second place finish at the British Cross Challenge in Perth, Scotland, stormed to victory in 16 minutes 9 seconds to take maximum points for Stratford.

He was followed by Milo Cullimore (22nd in 19 mins 2 secs) and Jaicob Ford (23rd in 19 mins 8 secs) as the pair secured their highest finishes of the season with Henry Wheeler (32nd in 19 mins 46 secs).

And the results mean the under-17’s have moved up to fourth in the league table.




Stratford’s under-13 boys also excelled to remain top of their league as Arthur Williamson (fourth in 9 mins 20 secs) led the team home with Joel Ledgard (fifth in 9 mins 26 secs) and Aran Cooper (seventh in 9 mins 36 secs).

Just outside the top-10 was Sam Plumb (11th in 9 mins 55 secs) whilst Kipp Stevens climbed several places to finish 16th in 10 mins 6 secs as five Stratford runners finished in the top-16.


Slightly further back were Morgan Nabney (22nd in 10 mins 21 secs) and Will Hovell (63rd in 12 mins 2 secs) with the former placing 11 places higher than his previous best and the latter completing the course despite suffering injury after falling down a slippery descent.

The day began with Stratford’s under-17 women as Niamh Hillard (9th, 17:06) was first to finish with Olivia Robinson (12th, 16:51), Maisie-Joy Spriggs (13th, 17:06), Abbie Cooper (18th, 17:25), Lucy Thomas (32nd, 19:14), Emily Cottam (38th, 19:49) and Tilly Campbell (37th, 24:33).

And the team maintained third place in the league table whilst Olivia secured her highest finish of the season.

They were followed by Stratford’s under-11 boys as Eli Ford (23rd, 08:08) improved his best finish by 10 places with Toby Ledgard (32nd, 08:18), Tom Yates (33rd, 08:20), Callum Linforth (101st, 09:34) and Tyler Li (107th, 10:17).

The boys moved up one place in their league to eighth position.

And Amelie Marshall (21st, 08:31) led the under-11 girls team home for the fourth consecutive race followed by Maggie Silvers (25th, 08:37), Jasmine Mothershaw (32nd, 08:50), Emily Lambert (40th, 08:58), Martha Edwards (49th, 09:10), Evangeline Harris (89th, 09:50) and Layla Sparrow (121st, 12:15) to sit sixth in the table.

Stratford’s under-15 boys remained second in their league courtesy of strong runs from Sam Lambert (11th, 12:14), Zak Lambert (12th, 12:19), William Mayes (18th, 12:30), Tom Fisher (22nd, 12:48), James Day (25th, 12:52), James Mayes (45th, 13:43), Seb Hillard (67th, 14:53) and Ewan Sparrow (81st, 16:38).

In the under-13 girls race, Marijke Tear-Verweij (third, 10:06) produced a fabulous run with Lois Ford (13th/10:50), Portia Nabney (19th, 11:06), Stella Slant (24th, 11:25), Ava Sheppard (31st, 11:35), Amelia Peeke (36th, 11:39), Georgia Sharpe (64th, 12:34) and Rachel Sparrow (66th, 12:35) to sit third in the table.

Lastly, the under-15 girls maintained fifth place in their league as Annie Silvers (10th, 14:01) took top spot for Stratford with Bo Algate (35th, 15:18), Hannah Wilkinson (51st, 16:48), Charlotte Skinner (61st, 17:14), Harriet Black (63rd, 17:19), Bayleigh Stubbins (64th, 17:29) and Brooke Rossney (75th, 20:01)

Overall, Stratford sit third in the league table with 24,832 points, having placed fourth last year, with the final fixture to take place at Aldersley Stadium in Wolverhampton on Sunday, February 12.
