VICTORY for Abbie Wootton was the highlight of a busy period of activity for Stratford Triathlon Club members in the West Midlands Junior Triathlon Series.

Race number three took place at Lucton Junior School near Hereford following events at Duston and Lichfield.

At Lucton, Stratford were yet again represented in style by 13 of their junior triathletes.

The first race of the day was the youth category (368m swim/8km bike/3km run) in which the club were represented by three youth athletes.

Ben Jones finished third in the boys’ race (48 minutes, 9 seconds), picking up another trophy for his ever growing collection.

The girls were represented by Hope Lawton who finished third (52 minutes, 9 seconds) and Abbie Wootton who won (50 minutes) as she continued her fine run of results this season.

Next up for the club were the Tri Star 3 athletes (276m swim/6km bike/2.4km run) in which the club were represented by three athletes in the girls’ race.

Freya Fines-Allin finished seventh (43 minutes, 52 seconds), Helena West was fifth (42 minutes, 26 seconds) and Lucy Sainsbury was unlucky to be disqualified from the race despite a splendid performance.

The boys were represented by Joshua Mitchell who finished a magnificent third (35 minutes, 26 seconds) to gain his first podium finish of the season.

The Tri Star 2 category athletes were next to race (184m swim/4km bike/1.8km run) and in the boys’ race Theo Skirvin finished seventh (31 minutes, 18 seconds), but Oscar Fines-Allin was disappointed to be disqualified from the race despite putting in a performance that would have given him a top two finish.

However, he can take confidence from such a splendid performance into his next race.

The Tri Star 2 girls were represented by Charlotte Marshall who finished eighth (30 minutes, 57 seconds) and Molly Bullock who finished sixth (30 minutes, 26 seconds).

Juliette Marshall was the only athlete racing for the club in the Tri Star 1 category, finishing in a respectable 11th place (24 minutes, 21 seconds).

Last up were the Tri Star Start athletes, including Martha Bullock in the girls’ race. Martha continued her fine form in her debut season to finish second (12 minutes, 7 seconds) following on from first placed finishes in her previous two races.

At Duston, triathlon brothers Joshua Flower (TS1) and Lewis Flower (TS3) were making their debut for the club in a competitive triathlon and finished 29th and 30th in their races.

A regular competitor at Duston, Lucy Sainsbury was 26th in TS3. In the youth category Stratford packed the top finishing places with Abbie Wootton first, Hope Lawton fourth and Daisy Nicolle fifth.

At the recent BRAT Lichfield Sprint Triathlon Ben Jones turned on the style in the youth race. The event involved a 20km bike section on the roads and the youths were racing at the same time as the adults.

A very assured performance from Ben saw him come first in the youth race and finish ahead of most of the adults.

The performances from all athletes highlighted the strength of Stratford Tri Club across all age categories.
