A MAGISTRATE from Stoneleigh has been awarded an MBE recognising her work.

Judy Oliver JP served as a magistrate in Coventry and Warwickshire for 14 years and runs around 70 workshops in schools each year.

The pioneering sessions are aimed at educating ten and 11-year-olds on knife and cyber crime, the law and court system.

Judy – who experienced a life-changing injury in her 50s which left her wheelchair bound – has now retired from the bench but continues to run the workshops.

She was awarded the Retired Magistrate of the Year award in 2017.

Judy also sits on a Youth Referral Panel for Coventry Youth Offending Team, demonstrating her wider commitment to youth justice and education.

She had no idea she was being put forward for the MBE by her colleagues at the Magistrates Association.

She said: “I am overwhelmed and humbled to be given an MBE by the Queen.

“I am delighted local justice and our educational work in schools which teaches children about the consequences of criminal activities have been recognised in this incredible way.”

The Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire Tim Cox said: “As the Queen’s representative in Warwickshire I am delighted Mrs Oliver has been given this honour for her voluntary work in schools which ensures young people learn about right and wrong, crime and consequences and are equipped with a range of citizenship skills for the rest of their lives.”
