Warwick Hospital set to unveil ambitious development plans to residents

Stratford Editorial 5th Sep, 2022 Updated: 5th Sep, 2022   0

RESIDENTS are being invited to hear about ambitious development plans to transform Warwick Hospital over the next decade.

The plans, which form part of South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust’s (SWFT) long term Estates Strategy, are geared at ensuring services at the hospital are safe, sustainable, efficient and fit for purpose.

The first stage of plans at Warwick Hospital aim to increase the number of surgical procedures that can be safely carried out.

This will involve the development of a temporary building consisting of two wards, with treatment rooms and waiting areas, for clinics and minor operations whilst a brand new three-storey surgical hub is built.

Moving into a temporary building will allow the hospital’s existing two surgical wards to be demolished and the new surgical hub built in its place.

Other proposals in the pipeline, according to the Estates Strategy for Warwick Hospital, include creating a main entrance to support better wayfinding, developing the centre of the site “which is currently in a poor condition and is not as functional as it could be” and creating “better flow around the site”.

The improvements will be carried out through a phased approach, with no reduction to car parking on site and with an eye to providing space for future expansion.

The document, which will create a road map for the Trust, was published in February.

And now SWFT is holding two events for the people of Warwick to learn more about the plans.

The first event will take place at the hospital’s John Turner Centre on Monday September 26 from 5.30pm to 6.15pm and the second event, on Tuesday October 25 from 5.30pm to 6.15pm, will be a virtual event online.

Sophie Gilkes, Chief Strategy Officer, and Mark Jones, Associate Director of Strategic Estates and Capital Planning, will both be on hand to give presentations.
