Two Faberge eggs to go under the hammer at Kinghams

TWO handcrafted Faberge eggs, uncovered by Cotswold auctioneers Kinghams, could fetch £20,000.

Consigned to the auctioneers’ upcoming Silver and Objects of Vertu sale, the two Faberge eggs were consigned by a private client.

According to Kinghams’ associate director, Matthew Lafite, both eggs are crafted from eighteen-carat gold and diamonds, with guilloche enamel, and limited to small editions. Both eggs were created by Workmaster Victor Mayer for Faberge.

The ‘Welsh Egg’, limited to 25 pieces, is crafted from 18ct yellow gold, diamonds, nephrite, and rock crystal. The external decoration of the egg consists of the symbols of Wales. The Welsh dragon is made with original Welsh gold. The egg reveals inside a surprise bouquet of enamel daffodil flowers.

The ‘Millennium’ or ‘2000 Egg’, the larger of the two, is limited to just 12 pieces, and is made from 18ct white gold, 2.64-carats of diamonds, and 40 points of sapphires, and also features white opal, and a lapis lazuli foot. With applied lettering ‘MM’, highlighted in diamonds.

Mr Lafite added: “Both of these Faberge eggs have wonderful provenance, part of a private collection from the United Kingdom, where they had been in pride of place for almost thirty years. We are delighted to be entrusted with handling their sale. Very seldom do Faberge works from these limited editions come to the open market. This sale has already generated worldwide interest.”

Both pieces will be highlights of Kinghams Auctioneers’ Silver & Objects of Vertu sale, to be held at the firm’s headquarters in Moreton-in-Marsh on November 20.
