Tug of War Associations Midland Championships coming to Alcester

Stratford Editorial 15th Apr, 2016 Updated: 28th Oct, 2016

THE STRONGEST men and women in the country will soon be battling it out in Alcester.

The town is set to host the Tug of War Associations Midland Championships on Sunday May 8 with athletes competing to win the Midland Region and AAA Championships titles.

The event will take place on Jubilee Fields from 11am as the teams are weighed and prepared for the ancient sport to commence.

Alcester Town councillor and Chairman of Stratford District Council, Mike Gittus, has supported the Tug of War Association for many years.

He said: “This event has become a regular feature in the Alcester town’s calendar.

“I have always enjoyed the spectacle and the passion of the competitors in this ancient of all sports.

“I am hoping this year will be particularly successful as I am aware the Tug of War Association is considering us as a venue for the International Finals next year.”

Refreshments will be available at the Jubilee Centre.
