SCHOOL chefs will be going pan to pan in Stratford this week.
The national final of the School Chef of the Year competition – organised annually by The School Food People – is being held at Stratford College.
Against the clock and under the scrutiny of the judging panel, the 12 competitors – who include Coventry chef Lee Taylor, who works John Gulson Primary – must prepare, cook and present a main course and a dessert suitable for serving to year six pupils.
They will have 90 minutes, and a maximum spend of £1.30 is allowed for the cost of a single meal which includes a main meal and dessert.
Chefs will be serving up dishes inspired from all corners of the globe, including Lee who is planning a Bangladeshi style chickpea and spinach curry in a chapati boat followed by ‘kheer’ – an Indian style rice pudding – with a twist.
The cook off is on Thursday.
