TIME out for carers is being offered at Woodloes Community Centre in Warwick.
It is opening its doors on Easter Monday (April 1) and offering refreshments and a chance to chat for all local carers.
There are many carers locally looking after a family member or loved one with a long-term condition, and as a result can become isolated from the outside world.
The event is geared at giving carers a break from their everyday routines.
April 1 has been specially chosen to raise awareness of Motor Neurone Disease, which affects not just the person with the condition, but those caring for them and the wider family.
Local methodist minister Rev Andy Laird was diagnosed with MND, and each April 1 he and family and friends arranged an event to raise funds for research.
Andy did a marathon of mini-marathons, a wheelchair egg and spoon race, and a reverse triathlon – all specially adapted to his developing condition.
After his death, the tradition continues. Last year, his close friend Trevor Langley organised a Sunrise Challenge Walk for MND, with local scouting and church people, to raise funds and awareness for the condition.
But this year, Trevor wanted the focus to be on those doing the caring, and so came up with the tine out for carers session.
The centre will be open for four hours, with timed slots starting at 11am, noon, 1pm and 2pm.
