The Grosvenor confirmed as the Stratford hotel set to house asylum seekers

THE GROSVENOR has been confirmed as the hotel in Stratford set to house asylum seekers.

Rumours began to swirl at the end of last week after Stratford District Council (SDC) put an announcement up on its website – spotted by the Observer – that it had been informed by the Home Office a hotel in the town would be used as part of the government’s dispersal policy for housing individuals seeking asylum in the UK.

SDC stated on its website:”SDC will be working with partners and other agencies to support the individuals seeking asylum while their asylum applications are processed.”

A spokesperson continued that at this stage this was as much as they knew for certain.

“The details are still being formulated and agreed,” they added.

But now an anonymous source has confirmed the hotel is The Grosvenor on Warwick Road, which closed its doors to the public last week. The hotel will remain closed to paying guests for its duration as a refuge for asylum seekers.

The Grosvenor Hotel was unavailable for comment.
