A FLASH MOB of sprightly pensioners took Stratford town centre by storm this week.
The troupe of over 30 retirees, aged between 65 and 87, donned their lycra and gathered outside Shakespeare’s Birthplace in Henley Street on Wednesday (September 20) to perform a surprise flash mob to a medley of songs.
The routine was choreographed especially for National Fitness Day.
The retirees, all from Great Alne Park, hoped to prove that age is only a number thanks to the power of staying active.
Eighty seven-year-old Pat Tilling was in the mob, celebrating her 65th wedding anniversary to husband Arnold, a former armed forces musician. Alongside Pat was Shirley Symmonds, aged 86, who was watched by both her children and great-grandchildren as she danced to a Jive Bunny Mega-mix.
And Sue Wakenshaw, aged 76, was right at home with 45 years experience as a fitness instructor under her belt. Tania Skerrit, the creative force behind the flash mob, even used to attend Sue’s fitness classes, bringing their journey full circle.
Tania said: “Behind the scenes, everyone has dedicated months to perfecting their dance routine. Their commitment and willingness to embrace new challenges were nothing short of inspiring.”
