AN ENTERPRISING youngster from Stratford has raised £50 for Ukrainian refugees by making and selling cakes.
Harry Hewitt raised the cash while completing his money skills badge for the Beavers.
The six-year-old wrote a flyer, posted it through 42 houses in the road in which he lives and then spent two days making the cakes, which he sold from a table in front of his house. He also made a giant Ukraine flag.
Harry is giving the money to Stratford-based community group Welcome Here, which runs twice-weekly drop-ins for refugees from Ukraine living in the local area.
Welcome Here, which was founded in 2016 to give a community welcome to refugees who live in and around the town, also helps refugees from Syria, Afghanistan and a number of other countries.
Harry and his mum Caroline presented the donation to Welcome Here at its drop-in for Ukrainian refugees this week.
Roger Matthews from Welcome Here said: “We are grateful to Harry for his efforts in raising money for refugees from Ukraine. Welcome Here has always found local people to be kind and generous in their response to the refugees who come to our area.”
