Stratford taxi driver has his licence taken away on public safety grounds

A TAXI driver from Stratford has had his licence revoked on public safety grounds.

The 71-year-old had his dual driver’s badge revoked with immediate effect following a meeting of Stratford District Council’s licensing panel.

He had received previous warnings of his poor conduct and breach of licence conditions.

The panel considered the incidents reported by the licensing officer and concluded that his driving fell below the standards expected of drivers licensed by SDC.

The panel unanimously resolved to revoke the dual driver’s licence and considered that it was in the interests of public safety that the revocation should have immediate effect.

The driver has a right of appeal to the Magistrate’s Court within 21 days of the notice of decision. The driver has chosen not to appeal and therefore is no longer a licensed driver with SDC.

SDC’s neighbourhood Services spokesperson Coun Lorraine Grocott said: “Public safety is of vital importance when it comes to considering whether a driver is fit and proper to hold a licence. In protecting public safety, we expect our drivers to maintain the high standard that is expected of them and their licensed vehicles when carrying passengers, especially those that are vulnerable or elderly in our community.

“The standard that Stratford District Council expects of its licensed drivers fell below that which is expected from this driver.”
