Stratford Table Tennis Club to host a 24-hour charity marathon

A 24-HOUR table tennis marathon is being held in memory of a much-loved support of Stratford Table Tennis Club.

The event will be held in memory of the late Rod Lewis at Ilmington Village Hall on January 31, led by BBC Make A Difference Award winner Kevin Taylor.

While the marathon will raise vital funds for Alzheimer’s Society, Parkinson’s UK, and Stratford Table Tennis Club, organisers say the day is about much more than fundraising – it’s about celebrating how table tennis can transform lives.

Kevin said: “Table tennis has the power to make a real difference. For people living with conditions such as Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s, it’s not just a sport – it’s therapy through movement, connection and joy. This event is about honouring Rod’s legacy by showing what can be achieved when community and compassion come together.”

Research has shown that table tennis can support people with neurological conditions by improving coordination, balance, and cognitive function – while also offering social connection, confidence, and a sense of belonging.

The club is also proud to announce a new partnership with Parkinson’s UK to increase participation in table tennis among people living with Parkinson’s.
