Stratford mum who survived frenzied attack teaming up to help domestic abuse survivors

A MUM from Stratford who was left disfigured after a frenzied attack by an ex-partner is using her love of cosmetic surgery to help other survivors of domestic violence.

Nearly 20 years ago Sarah Burge was stabbed, beaten, raped and left for dead. She was devastated after seeing the damage done to her face and body during the attack and has since undergone more than £500,000 in procedures to cover up the scars.

The 55-year-old told the Observer: “I was a victim of domestic violence and had to have my face rebuilt. I was robbed of my face in a jealous attack by the person who claimed to love me most. He left me with a broken nose, cheeks, eye socket and chin. I was slashed with scissors, had a collapsed lung and internal bleeding. I had to have my face rebuilt

“I survived 13 years of domestic violence and verbal abuse and was made to feel worthless. When I almost died and my looks were taken I vowed that I would never allow anyone to take my dignity again.”

To help others in a similar situation, self-confessed cosmetic surgery lover Sarah – whose past operations have included breast implants, liposuction and a tummy tuck – trained in aesthetics and now offers procedures and counselling from her home in Stratford where she lives with husband Tony and young daughter Poppy.

Using needles instead of knives she offers the likes of face lifts and nose jobs – and even performs Botox injections on herself.

She said: “I wouldn’t perform a procedure on anyone which I have not had myself.

“Because of my history I understand why people choose the cosmetic surgery route and perform all non-surgical procedures myself.

“Like many survivors I had to heal on the outside before healing on the inside.

“I have made it my mission to raise awareness of domestic violence and help survivors globally re-build their battered faces and bodies though the many benefits of plastic surgery and non-surgical treatments.

“This is while bringing empathy and understanding to those who need just that – after all I have lived through it.”
