Stratford homelessness brought to the stage

Stratford Editorial 14th Apr, 2023 Updated: 17th Apr, 2023   0

A HARD-hitting play bringing to life the realities of homelessness is coming to Stratford.

Streets Arts Project will be presenting Back Streets at the Bear Pit Theatre in May.

The drama is a powerful and moving interpretation of the lived experiences of the homeless and vulnerable community they have supported on the streets of Stratford over the last two years.

Written by Jackie Lines, local playwright and co-founder of Street Arts Project, it tells the story of those whose lives are played out on the streets, where the despair of sleeping rough sits alongside friendship, hope and compassion.

The play depicts the journey downward that can happen to so many in today’s society.

Performed in the round, it is an immersive and visceral experience performed by a local cast seen regularly at the Bear Pit theatre.

Also supporting in the finale are the musicians, workshop participants and friends of Street Arts Project.

The play is part of a larger project that Street Arts Project have been devising for over a year, working alongside the community.

The theatrical production, song and music workshops are all funded by Stratford Town Trust.

Back Streets will be performed from May 3 to May 6 at 7.30pm.

Tickets are available from the RSC on 01789 333935.
