THERE was plenty of messing about on the river in aid of Birmingham Children’s Hospital.
Stratford Boat Club teamed up with ADI Automotive Services for a dragon boat race on Saturday June 7.
Twelve dragon boat crews were drawn from Birmingham and West Midlands companies who work and do business with ADI Automotive Services, based in Erdington.
There were 13 races with three crews at a time powering down the town stretch of the Avon passing the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and the recreation ground, where fellow contestants and the public watched the spectacle.
A total of £21,000 was raised on the day which will go to Birmingham Children’s Hospital, ADI Automotive Services’ nominated charity.
Stratford Boat Club chairman Dawson Curnock said: “Stratford Boat Club has been at the heart of the Stratford and Warwickshire community for over 150 years and we welcome the chance to contribute to the local and wider area.
“The day was a high octane one with over one hundred dragon boaters and their families, colleagues watching on the Rec, Bancroft Gardens and the RST terrace.
“The weather held up and we thank our river colleagues for all their cooperation.”
