Stratford district's yo-yo Covid rates continue

Stratford Editorial 16th Aug, 2022   0

STRATFORD district’s yo-yo up and down the area’s Covid rates dashboard continues – as this week it takes another plunge.

In a month when Covid rates have significantly dropped across the whole of the West Midlands, the district now sits mid table on the dashboard in 18th spot, with a rate of 71.48 per 100,000 people as of the seven days up to August 9.

This is a huge drop in rate and position after the area topped the table for Warwickshire – also coming in third highest for the West Midlands – last month with a rate of 223.68 as of the seven days up to July 19.

While the week before that, Stratford district recorded the lowest rate for the county with 245.97.

To further demonstrate the district’s yo-yo credentials, the month before in June, Stratford had the highest rate for the whole of the West Midlands. Data for the seven days up to June 21 showed the rate in the district stood at 228.29.

Currently top of the table for August with the highest Covid rates for the West Midlands is Worcester with 108.67.

Bottom of the table is Solihull with the lowest Covid rate of 57.31.

Warwick is seventh in the table with a rate of 77.11. While Rugby has a rate of 77.11, putting it 16th on the table.

Covid rates across the whole of the West Midlands have dramatically fallen over the last month to less than half but health experts continue to press home the message there is no room for complacency as the virus has not gone away.

Last month Katie Spence, deputy director at UK Health and Security Agency (UKHSA) West Midlands, told the Observer:

“We’ve learned so much in the last two years but as we move to living with Covid on a long-term basis, every one of us needs to remain vigilant, take precautions, and ensure that we’re up to date with our Covid-19 vaccinations.

“Let’s enjoy the summer and our regained freedoms but keep in mind that Covid-19 hasn’t gone away and we all need to do our bit to live safely.”
