STRATFORD District Council has ranked second best for climate action in Warwickshire.
Climate Emergency UK assessed all UK councils on the actions they have taken towards net zero through its 2025 Action Scorecard assessment.
SDC scored 42 per cent overall this year – a 12 per cent improvement on its 2023 score, which saw it rise 12 places up the national rankings.
The council’s score is also seven per cent above this year’s national average.
Neighbouring Warwick District Council scored 53 per cent.
SDC improved in a number of areas when compared with 2023 figures including buildings and heating, planning and land use, biodiversity, and waste reduction and food.
SDC leader Coun Susan Juned said: “Stratford District Council is committed to addressing climate change and acknowledges the benefits that come from doing so. We are pleased to see the progress we have made being recognised and look forward to even better results next year, when our current projects come to fruition.”
Highlights of progress achieved so far this year include over £44,000 in grant funding to support community based green initiatives, adopting a Climate Change and Nature Recovery Strategy and installing solar panels on Shipston and Stratford leisure centres.
