A MEDIA student from Stratford College has scored a top apprenticeship with the BBC.
Lewis Hawkins had to pinch himself when the BBC offered him a production apprenticeship with its education department at Salford.
It was even the first apprenticeship the Digital Media Production student applied for.
Lewis said: “The many media experiences I have had, and what I have learnt and experienced in college, meant I knew where I wanted to work within media. I wanted to get straight into the job instead of going to university and then trying to get a job in that role much later on.
“After receiving some rejections and not hearing back from the BBC at first I was feeling quite defeated. But I continued progressing, and expanding my CV by doing things such as working as a runner.”
Lewis continuously displayed this determination throughout college, taking on a whole range of extra work to develop his skills. This included getting a place on the prestigious BFI Documentary course and working as a floor manager at this year’s Commonwealth Games.
Lewis’ apprenticeship will last 18 months and should hopefully lead to a job upon completion.
He added: “Overall I am most excited about being a part of the BBC, especially the education department, in a place like Media City. It is exactly what I have wanted since I knew I wanted to work in media.”
