Spinners to showcase their skills in Stratford

Stratford Editorial 20th Aug, 2017   0

SPINNERS will be getting their spools ready to showcase their skills.

Stratford’s Guild of Weavers, Spinners and Dyers will be showcasing their work at Old Town’s Methodist Church Hall for Worldwide Spin in Public Day on Saturday (September 16).

The free event between 12pm and 3.30pm will see members – who also hail from Solihull and Southam – demonstrate different types of handiwork, including spinning, weaving, tapestry, dyeing, carding, felt-making, knitting and crochet.

Group secretary Chris Pegler said: “The guild has been active for more than four decades and we hope by demonstrating what we do, to encourage future interest in our crafts and entice new would-be weavers, spinners and dyers to join us.”

The group regularly demonstrate their skills at Mary Arden’s House and a lot of their tapestry work is on permanent display around Warwickshire.

A range of spinning wheels, styles and fibres will be exhibited, and there will be a chance for visitors to try their hand at spindle spinning, needle felting or stick weaving.

A range of handmade products and craft materials will also be on sale.

Chris added: “This event will be a great opportunity to see the range of crafts the guild engages in, with opportunities to ask questions of the makers – as well as seeing them in action.”
