South Warwickshire rural crime fighting duo scoop award

A RURAL crime fighting duo’s work in south Warwickshire has proved award winning.

Stratford District Council’s rural crime advisors, Alison Packer and Rebecca Jenkins, have been recognised by Warwickshire Police for their ongoing contribution to reducing rural crime by receiving a Neighbourhood Policing Award.

The Neighbourhood Policing awards recognise outstanding local work carried out by police officers and staff and partnership initiatives to make communities safer.

Within south Warwickshire, the two rural crime advisors in SDC’s community safety team, carry out dedicated work with individuals, businesses and communities to reduce the impact of crime in rural areas.

The posts are jointly funded by SDC and Warwickshire Police and Crime Commissioner.

Alison and Rebecca were recognised for their work in villages and communities that expressed concerns around crime. They run specifically targeted events to provide advice and free crime prevention material to reduce crime and to increase feelings of safety.

In doing this the advisors have worked with countless villages and built up a substantial network that they can work with to reduce crime where it occurs.

SDC’s law spokesperson Coun Natalie Gist said: “I am delighted that the hard work of our rural crime advisors as part of our community safety team has been recognised by Warwickshire Police.  Along with our partners this administration is committed to supporting residents right across our rural district.”

Warwickshire Police and crime commissioner Philip Seccombe added: “The awards came as part of Neighbourhood Policing Week, which celebrates the work that goes on across Warwickshire to keep communities safe.

“Policing works hand-in-hand with partners to do this and it is great to see the difference that Alison and Rebecca make across rural parts of the district being commended in this way. I know that I speak on behalf of residents and rural businesses across south Warwickshire in passing on congratulations to both of them.”
