Rum inspired by famous Stratford statue

A FAMOUS Stratford statue has inspired the creation of a new rum.

The Stratford-based Shakespeare Distillery has launched the first of their ‘Jester’ Cask Aged British Rums.

It has been aged for 30 months in an ex-Buffalo Trace bourbon cask and is limited to just 415 bottles.

The name ‘Jester’ is taken from the sculpture of a Jester which sits in Henley Street, just a stone’s throw from Shakespeare’s Birthplace.

Almost all of Shakespeare’s jesters were fond drinkers, and known to be bold, memorable, and popular characters.

Shakespeare Distillery founder Simon Picken said “After a three-year journey, we are delighted to launch our first ever Cask Aged Rum. We haven’t chosen the easy route by importing somebody else’s rum, we make it from scratch here in Warwickshire, so we have complete control over the flavour.

“We use British milled molasses which we ferment for seven days before double distilling into a stunning, smooth, buttery white rum and then aging. I couldn’t be any prouder of what we have produced, and I can’t wait for our customers to taste this delicious and very limited-edition rum, a great Christmas gift for rum fans.”

Shakespeare Distillery are one of only a handful of distilleries in the UK to create their rum in its entirety onsite. The company launched their White Rum in April 2021, followed by a Spiced Rum in June 2021.

Their Jester White Rum was awarded a silver medal in the International Wine and Spirit Competition 2021.
