Reports from Ukraine frontline coming to Shipston

REPORTS from Ukraine’s frontline will be coming straight to Shipston in June.

Shipston and District Literary Society is organising an evening with renowned poet Professor Iryna Starovoyt on June 4.

Iryna, who is a visiting professor at Oxford University, will be speaking with the society within four days of returning from Ukraine.

Her discussion will be interspersed with readings from her poetry. There will also be a celebration of Ukrainian culture, including images and music, as part of the evening, which starts at 7.30pm and takes place at the Townsend Hall in Shipston.

The society will be making a significant donation from the evening towards buying books in Ukrainian and distributing them to Ukrainian children in the UK as part of efforts to keep them in touch with their language and culture for when they return home.

And members are also appealing for individuals, organisations and businesses to sponsor a ticket to the event for a Ukrainian national, to fund Ukrainians who might otherwise not be able to attend.
