Refurbishment for historic riverside pub

Ian Hughes 2nd Jun, 2025   0

BIG changes are brewing at Cox’s Yard in Stratford.

The historic riverside pub is undergoing a £355,000 upgrade over the coming month.

The internal layout will be reconfiguration, with the introduction of new furnishings, and a new enclosed outdoor area will be developed, allowing customers to enjoy the terrace whatever the weather.

And two state-of-the-art interactive darts lanes will also be installed as part of the refurbishment along with a shuffleboard table.

Josephine’s Cafe area will be rebranded and transformed to feature a brand-new deli-style counter, serving seasonal savoury and sweet options. The all-new cafe will also feature a bar top with power and plug sockets, providing the daytime space for home workers.

General manager Luke Stanley said: “This refurbishment is all about making Cox’s Yard an even better place to enjoy – whether you’re catching up with friends over drinks, grabbing a coffee in the café, or relaxing by the river. The site has so much to offer the local community, and the renovation works will allow us to create new spaces that can be utilised for all occasions. We can’t wait to welcome everyone in to experience the new look – it’s going to be worth the wait.”

For most of the work, Cox’s Yard will remain open, with construction taking place in phases to minimise disruption. During the final part of the refurbishment (June 23 to 30), the venue will be fully closed for safety reasons..

An official reopening event is being planned for July 4. Customers are encouraged to keep an eye on the pub’s social media channels for more details, as well as exclusive behind-the-scenes updates of the construction.
